Day 2: Land-based Marine Life Spotting & Snorkeling
Saturday morning from 8:30 to 12:30
Event Overview
A lovely short walk in the stunning scenario where the colors of wild flowers blend with the blue sea and the white cliffs. A variety of animals can be spotted from the top of the cliffs, including seabirds and dolphins. Participants will have the opportunity to help the marine biologist in carrying out the observations and will learn the importance of respect and safeguard of nature through environmental education.
The presence of wild animals depends on location, season and daybreak, therefore it cannot be fully guaranteed. However, the marine biologist and the assistants will do their best to ensure an unforgettable and educational experience.
Program
The team of marine biologists walks the participants through the beauty of the chosen area. The walk takes around 20-25 minutes during which the participants learn about the characteristics of the area. Once on top of the cliff, a brief lecture on the species that can be spotted is given before starting the observations.
Participants will be therefore engaged in sightings and data collection if dolphins are spotted until around 12. After the spotting session, participants will have time to have their own lunch at the beach and then we’ll conclude the day with a guided snorkeling session in the bay to discover the Posidonia oceanica meadows.
Day 3: Boat based Marine Life Spotting
Event overview:
During this boat trip, participants get involved in marine wildlife sighting and research while enjoying an entire day sailing off the beautiful Maltese islands. Participants may have the opportunity to help the marine biologist in spotting dolphins and sea birds, and will learn the importance of respect and safeguard of nature through environmental education.
An insight of the ecology of the species that are present in the Maltese waters, seabirds, sea turtles, dolphins is given at the beginning of the tour in order to better understand behavior and characteristics of the animals when enjoying the time with them. In addition, participants can be involved in data collection on dolphins for the scientific research carried out by EcoMarine. Encounters with wild animals in their own environment are something unique and an exciting experience that affects people in a very special and positive way.
The presence of the animals depends on location, season and daybreak and cannot be guaranteed. However, the marine biologist and the skipper will do their best to find the right route also using specific equipment.
